Sometimes writing feels like pulling teeth…

This is one of those times.

But it’s not just writing.

You could be a dancer on a day you cannot dance. A musician feeling out of tune. A painter who temporarily loses sight of colours. Maybe you’re into numbers and Sudoku lost its appeal.

It will pass.

Direct your attention elsewhere. It needs to go in places you may not expect. Is there anything you’ve been putting off, lately? Saving for later?

If you’re like me and the rest of people the answer is surely yes.

Maybe it’s something like cleaning your room. It could be some work thing, perhaps studying, exercising, handling finances, making an important decision or even confronting people.

Even more importantly, when was the last time you had time off?

Time to rest, relax and de-stress both your mind and body. We often over-schedule ourselves, sign up for too many things, say yes to (mostly) everything or everyone and often equate not doing anything with a sense of guilt.

Time is too short, we burn out, get sick or miss out on life. Our own life and its needs. We only get one and it eventually runs out, whether we truly live it or not.

Most of us don’t prioritize ourselves enough. We seek to fulfill obligations, meet expectations, please people, yet often neglect paying attention to ourselves in the present moment, the only one that exists – and dare I say, matters.

What does your life look like? Is this how you want it to look like? If you don’t change it now, it will remain the same. If you’re hoping for change, you need to start making it happen right now.

Surprise, you are the one who needs to change. If you’re waiting for other things in your life to do so, they will look similar years down the road.

Change starts from within once you decide to say “stop.” That’s what you need to do, stop. If you don’t stop things will continue the same way.

Change them… by changing yourself.

If you can’t change, go somewhere where you can. Maybe you’re not in the right place. Find yourself where you want to be. That is where you need to go.

Your cognitive dissonance will vanish, writing will resume, dancing, painting, Sudoku, you name it. Flow returns.

I didn’t want to write anything today. I pushed it out, because I wanted to keep going. This is year three of posting on a monthly basis. I want to stop giving up, so I choose to keep going.

I will see you there.
